Xu Gao took a distant glance at the two children and returned to report to Imperial Noble Consort Han. “Your Highness, it’s the Little County Princess and one of her classmates.”
The entire palace knew that the Little County Princess was attending Lingbo Academy. Bringing a classmate home wasn’t unusual.
Imperial Noble Consort Han slammed her brush onto the holder. “How rowdy!”
Imperial Noble Consort Han disliked the Little County Princess, mainly because she had taken too much of the Emperor’s affection, which made her the target of jealousy among the women of the harem.
Imperial Noble Consort Han listened to the childish laughter from outside, and her irritation grew stronger with each passing moment.
She stood up coldly, her expression sharp.
Xu Gao looked at her in surprise. “Your Highness…”
Imperial Noble Consort Han sneered with a mix of mockery and disdain, “The Little County Princess seems to be having so much fun. This imperial consort thinks she should go see what’s entertaining her so much.”
“…Understood.” So, does this mean his wet shoes and damp clothes will have to wait?
Xu Gao braced himself and followed Imperial Noble Consort Han out of the chamber, holding an umbrella for her.
Standing at the entrance of her chamber, Imperial Noble Consort Han gazed at the two innocent and carefree little ones. Her eyes held no trace of affection or fondness; instead, they were filled with deep-seated loathing.
Suppressing her distaste, she approached them with a smile plastered across her face. “Isn’t this Little Xue? What brings you to your imperial consort aunt’s palace today? Were you looking for me?”
The two children’s puddle-splashing game was suddenly interrupted.
The Little County Princess tilted her head to look at Imperial Noble Consort Han and replied seriously, “You’re not my aunt. You’re just the imperial consort.”
The Little County Princess didn’t mean to embarrass Imperial Noble Consort Han; she was merely stating a fact. Her aunt was the Empress, who had already passed away.
With the palace servants all present, Imperial Noble Consort Han felt as though she had been slapped across the face. Her cheeks burned with humiliation.
She clenched her fingers tightly but still managed a smile. “Little Xue can call me whatever she likes. You’ve been playing for a while now. Aren’t you tired? Why don’t you come to my palace for a rest? I have plenty of delicious treats there.”
Although she despised this little girl, the idea of having the Emperor find her in her palace later seemed appealing.
At her age, she no longer sought the Emperor’s favor for herself, but being a companion in their twilight years—like the Emperor and Empress Xuanyuan once were—didn’t seem like a bad idea.
The Little County Princess turned to Little Jing Kong and asked, “Do you want to eat something?”
Little Jing Kong asked back, “What about you?”
The Little County Princess shook her head. “I’m not hungry.”
Little Jing Kong replied, “I’m not hungry either.”
The Little County Princess concluded, “Then we won’t eat! Let’s keep playing!”
Little Jing Kong’s first impression of Imperial Noble Consort Han wasn’t good. She spoke in a condescending tone, didn’t bend down to their level, and made them crane their necks just to look at her. Moreover, she didn’t even ask his name.
At this age, Little Jing Kong didn’t know the term “arrogant,” but he instinctively felt uncomfortable.
“I don’t want to play here anymore. Let’s go over there!” He suggested.
The Little County Princess nodded enthusiastically. “Okay, okay!”
The two little ones quickly made their decision.
“Goodbye, imperial consort!” The Little County Princess said politely, bidding farewell.
Imperial Noble Consort Han’s face darkened.
Here I am, showing warmth to someone who gives me nothing but cold indifference. You’re just a Little County Princess! Your father doesn’t even hold real power, and yet you dare to disrespect me!
Age didn’t necessarily make people more tolerant. Sometimes, the older a person gets, the more malicious they become.
Imperial Noble Consort Han couldn’t afford to offend the Little County Princess, so she turned her anger toward the Little County Princess’s new companion.
The two little ones trotted off happily.
Little Jing Kong happened to be walking closer to Imperial Noble Consort Han.
Without a word, Imperial Noble Consort Han subtly extended her foot, aiming to trip Little Jing Kong by sliding it under his.
Little Jing Kong didn’t realize it was Imperial Noble Consort Han’s foot and mistook it for a stone, stomping on it directly!
Imperial Noble Consort Han: “...!!”
A child’s stomp might seem harmless, but if that child was Little Jing Kong, it was a completely different story.
This was Little Jing Kong, who had been practicing basic skills at the temple since childhood and recently started learning martial arts.
The force behind his stomp was extraordinary!
Imperial Noble Consort Han felt as though a small iron weight had smashed onto the top of her foot, and a cry of pain quickly escaped her throat: “Ahh—!”
Immediately after, she lost her balance and fell backward, landing awkwardly on the muddy path.
Mud splattered everywhere, but Little Jing Kong swiftly pulled the Little County Princess aside with a whoosh!
In the end, the mud only splattered all over Imperial Noble Consort Han’s face.
Imperial Noble Consort Han was completely dumbfounded.
At her age, she never expected to take such a fall, especially in front of all the palace servants.
Furious and humiliated, she felt a sharp, drilling pain in her right instep and ankle. Her well-maintained face contorted into a grimace, completely abandoning its usual air of elegance and composure.
The palace servants nearby were horrified.
Xu Gao quickly stepped forward. “Your Highness! Your Highness! Are you alright?”
The two little ones stood frozen, staring at Imperial Noble Consort Han in confusion, completely clueless about what had just happened.
Although the sensation of a stone and a foot was different, how could a child be so perceptive in such matters?
Little Jing Kong was entirely in the dark. “Why, why did this old lady fall over?”
Imperial Noble Consort Han was just about to be helped up when she heard the term “old lady.” The sheer rage made her body tremble, and she fell back down again.
What?! Old lady?!
Little brat, can’t you see who you’re talking to?!
Imperial Noble Consort Han had been a first-class beauty in her youth. Even now, though older, she maintained her appearance meticulously and looked barely fifty, radiating the grace of a timeless beauty.
Little Jing Kong tilted his head, looking at Imperial Noble Consort Han with curiosity. He didn’t yet understand how much adults cared about titles and forms of address. After all, his master, who was only twenty-seven or twenty-eight, already referred to himself as an old man.
Moreover, his Grandaunt at home had absolutely no concerns about her looks or age. She wasn’t even satisfied with her current status and often wished people would call her “ancestor.”
So, for Little Jing Kong to address her as “old lady” was actually being quite modest.
Imperial Noble Consort Han was so furious that her mouth twisted in anger.
Just as the atmosphere at the scene grew unbearably tense, the Emperor arrived with Zhang Dequan, heading toward them.
He had come to look for the Little County Princess.
The little girl hadn’t insisted on going to the Imperial Advisor’s Hall today, which he found odd. He wondered whether she had changed her ways or had grown tired of playing with her friend. Then he heard that she had actually brought her little friend back to the imperial palace.
This little girl had even learned to bring friends home now.
But he couldn’t say much about it.
After all, with Zhang Dequan’s reminder, he remembered that he had indeed told her before that if she made friends in the future, she could bring them to the imperial palace to play.
When the Emperor arrived at the scene, he was greeted by utter chaos. Imperial Noble Consort Han looked as though she had been through a disaster, while the two little ones seemed thoroughly frightened by her.
“What’s going on here?” He asked in a deep voice.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
