Take My Breath Away

Chapter 909 - I'm Coming With You

The entire room fell silent for a moment. Terilynn continued, "It seems that Evelyn loves him very much. Dad and I saw her, the other day, with that man in front of the office building. They looked very happy. But Dad disagrees with their relationship. I feel so bad for Evelyn."

"What's his name and what does he do?" Matthew asked, feeling it necessary to investigate the man.

"Well, I will tell you everything I know, but don't tell anyone that I told you this. I don't want to cause any trouble." Even Debbie didn't know that the man Evelyn loved was Sheffield.

"Sure, you can trust me."

"His name is Sheffield Tang. He is a doctor and he is always friends with Joshua."

'Sheffield Tang...' Matthew fell into pensive reflection as the name sounded familiar to him. "Is he involved in some kind of research and development?"

"Yes, do you know him? I've heard that he is really good at research, and people keep saying how amazing his project is. Apparently, he has invested a lot of money into it!" Terilynn had learned all this from Joshua.

"I don't know him personally, but I've heard of him. Why did Evelyn and Joshua break up?" Having been studying abroad, Matthew needed to catch up on what was going on now.

"Joshua is a good friend of Sheffield's. He didn't know Sheffield had a crush on Evelyn until he went on a blind date with Evelyn. Since he didn't want to hurt Sheffield, he broke up with her, despite Dad's reluctance."

"I see. Well, thanks for the update. You should get some rest now." Matthew was finally able to see the whole picture.

"Matthew, can you tell Dad not to force Evelyn to be with Calvert?"

Matthew paused to think for a while and then answered, "You know Dad as well as I do. He always has a good reason for what he does. We may not be able to understand it, but I trust his judgment. He won't let Evelyn marry Calvert." Regardless of Sheffield, Carlos wouldn't force his daughter into marrying Calvert.

Carlos knew better than anyone else what kind of man Calvert was.

Matthew assumed that his father was just using Calvert to drive Sheffield away.

Once Sheffield was out of the picture, Evelyn and Calvert's stint would be over too.

"Okay! I forget how much of a cunning fox Dad can be sometimes. I'm going to bed. Good night." Terilynn smiled sweetly and went back to her room.

Matthew closed the door behind him and spent the next few minutes mulling over Evelyn and Sheffield's relationship before he decided to hit the sack.

The next afternoon, after Sheffield had just finished an operation, he was passing by the door of the emergency department when he saw doctors and nurses boarding an ambulance that was about to leave.

Out of curiosity, Sheffield glanced at the ambulance and found that the doctor in charge happened to be someone he knew. He casually greeted the doctor with a smile. "Yo, Dr. Chu, are you going out for an emergency aid?"

"Yes, it's in the high-end Waterside Mansion nearby!" Dr. Chu replied.

'Waterside Mansion?' Suddenly, Sheffield had a bad feeling. 'Isn't that Evelyn's neighborhood?' He grabbed Dr. Chu's hand and asked, "Which building and which floor?"

"It's the 9th floor of Building 6. Why? What's wrong?"

Without any hesitation, Sheffield climbed into the ambulance and said, "I'm coming with you!" He didn't even bother to take off his lab coat and change into his own clothes.

"What? Mr. Tang, you are coming with us?" The nurse next to him was surprised to see Sheffield there. After all, he was a doctor of the nephrology department. However, the patient they were going to visit had reported an injury to the head.

"Yes, Dr. Chu, I have a friend who lives there," explained Sheffield.

Dr. Chu didn't refuse him. Instead he nodded his head and said, "Oh, I see. Okay Dr. Tang, let's go quickly!"

The ambulance wailed all the way to the Waterside Mansion. It took only five minutes because they were escorted by a traffic policeman on their way.

Before the ambulance even came to a stop, Sheffield jumped out and ran into the elevator as fast as he could.

On the ninth floor

When Sheffield got out of the elevator, the door to Evelyn's apartment was wide open. Tayson was not at the door. He rushed in and shouted, "Evelyn, Evelyn..." His voice trembled each time he called out to her.

The living room was in a mess, and there was a man curled up on the floor while Tayson was standing next to him. Evelyn was sitting on the sofa with a pale face.

Surprised to see him in a doctor's uniform, Evelyn asked, "What are you doing here?"

Sheffield ignored the man on the floor, rushed to her and squatted in front of her, looking at her up and down. "What's the matter? Did something happen to you?"

Evelyn shook her head and said, "I'm fine. He's the one that needs help." She pointed at the man wincing on the floor.

Sheffield breathed a sigh of relief after he found out that she was fine. However, he noticed that one button on Evelyn's shirt was missing and her hair was disheveled. He squinted his eyes at her and said, "What exactly happened here?"

He thought Evelyn had been...

The nurses and doctors all came in from behind and surrounded the man on the floor.

Evelyn's eyes flashed with nervousness. She bit her lower lip and stammered, "I'm fine."

Ignoring the curious gazes from the nurses, he asked her again, "Tell me!"

'Something's wrong. I can see that she doesn't want to tell me, ' he thought to himself.

"I'm really fine..." Evelyn clearly didn't want to talk about it in a room full of people she didn't even know.

Sheffield stood up and faced Tayson. "What happened?"

Tayson looked at Evelyn and answered honestly, "He was like this when I came in..."

That meant that he had no idea either.

Not a single word from Evelyn, nor from Tayson. It only made Sheffield more anxious. He went over to the man and pulled him up from the floor while Dr. Chu was treating his wound.

There was panic and confusion in the air. Dr. Chu quickly comforted Sheffield. "Dr. Tang, the man has suffered extensive blunt force bruising and abrasions to his head. I need to stop the bleeding first. Please, calm down. Don't be so impatient."

Sheffield couldn't care less about the injured man as he growled angrily, "What did you do to her?" Sheffield had never met this man before and didn't know how he got into Evelyn's apartment. Looking at Sheffield with amusement, Napier Tao sneered,

"Hah! You obviously care about her a lot! Are you her lover as well? Just like her bodyguard? Ah!"

Before the guy could finish his sentence, Sheffield delivered a punch to his stomach, knocking the wind out of his lungs.

Chaos ensued and everyone in the apartment was in a panic. When two nurses held Sheffield by the arms, Dr. Chu urged, "Hold him back. Dr. Tang, please let me dress his wound first!"

Evelyn walked up to Sheffield and grabbed his wrist. "Calm down."

'Calm down?'

The mere glimpse of her unbuttoned shirt drove him mad with anger. How could he compose himself in such a situation?

He gently brushed off Evelyn's hand and raised his fist again towards Napier Tao's face. The guy lost a tooth and there was blood in his mouth.
