Also, many thanks to everyone who bought me coffee (*≧∀≦*)
“Jing Kong!”
From a distance, Ye Qing walked over with steady steps. He glanced at Taoist Qingfeng, then at Little Jing Kong, who was dangling mid-air in Taoist Qingfeng's grasp. With a puzzled expression, he asked, “What happened here?”
Little Jing Kong explained earnestly, “Big Brother Ye Qing, I almost tripped just now, but Big Brother Qingfeng saved me.”
Ye Qing looked even more perplexed. “You two know each other?”
Little Jing Kong replied cheerfully, “We just met!”
“I see.” Ye Qing nodded in understanding. He reached out to take Little Jing Kong into his arms. “Thank you, Taoist Qingfeng.”
Having failed to recruit a disciple, Taoist Qingfeng said nothing further and left without so much as a backward glance.
His temperament was rather unconventional, but Ye Qing didn’t take it to heart. With the road muddy and slippery, he carried Little Jing Kong directly back to the Qilin Hall.
By the time Zhang Dequan finally caught up, Little Jing Kong was already bouncing happily off to find Gu Jiao.
Zhang Dequan, after paying a visit to Shangguan Yan and discovering no signs of improvement in her condition, sighed heavily with a sense of melancholy.
……
When Little Jing Kong entered Gu Jiao’s room, he was surprised to find his Grandaunt and Granduncle there.
His reaction couldn’t just be described as similar to Xiao Heng’s, it was exactly the same. He stood there like a little dazed chicken, completely stunned.
“Little monk, come here.” Empress Dowager Zhuang, seated on a chair, called out to him.
“I’m not a little monk anymore!” Little Jing Kong corrected her, patting the tiny tuft of hair on his head with his small hand. “My hair is so long now.”
Empress Dowager Zhuang let out a faint snort through her nose, “Humph, let me see.”
Little Jing Kong dashed over, his little book bag in tow, and leaned his head forward, proudly presenting his tiny tuft for her inspection.
Empress Dowager Zhuang remarked, “Hmm, it does seem a bit longer.” There’s no denying that.
She then took the book bag from his arms and placed it on the table.
Looking at the two of them, Little Jing Kong asked in astonishment, “Grandaunt, Granduncle, why did you come all the way to such a faraway place?”
“To steal your snacks.” Empress Dowager Zhuang replied flatly.
Little Jing Kong immediately went on high alert, clutching his little pouch defensively. “I-I don’t have any snacks hidden!”
Empress Dowager Zhuang: “…”
The journey had tanned Little Jing Kong’s skin, but by now, his complexion had returned to its fair tone. He looked healthier and sturdier than he had back in the State of Zhao, and he had gained quite a bit of strength.
He was, without a doubt, a robust little calf.
Though Empress Dowager Zhuang didn’t say much, a faint glimmer of satisfaction flickered in her eyes.
After his initial shock wore off, Little Jing Kong quickly reverted to his chatty self, chattering away incessantly throughout the evening.
Empress Dowager Zhuang, overwhelmed by the relentless chatter of the little trumpet spirit, slumped into her chair in despair, utterly defeated.
Old Chief tested Little Jing Kong’s academic progress and found that not only had he learned a great deal of new material in the State of Yan, but he had also retained all his prior knowledge.
Among everyone who had traveled to the State of Yan, Little Jing Kong was the only one who had truly devoted himself to studying.
That night, Little Jing Kong insisted on sleeping with Gu Jiao and his Grandaunt. Gu Jiao saw no reason to refuse.
As the night deepened, the mysterious Imperial Advisor’s Hall resembled a colossal beast from the abyss, its sharp eyes now closed in slumber.
Inside the mosquito net, the faint scents of medicinal oils and wound ointments lingered in the air around Empress Dowager Zhuang.
Little Jing Kong lay sprawled out in the middle, clutching his beloved little golden abacus, his small mouth emitting soft, even breaths.
Gu Jiao pulled a small cloth over his tiny belly. Just as she was about to close her eyes, she heard Empress Dowager Zhuang, half-asleep on the outer edge, murmur, “Gu Yan’s illness… it’s really cured, isn’t it?”
Gu Jiao replied softly, “Yes, it’s completely cured. The surgery was a success, and he’ll be just like any other normal person from now on.”
“Hmm.” Empress Dowager Zhuang turned over.
After a while, she mumbled again, almost as if talking in her sleep, “Has Xiaoshun grown taller?”
“Yes, he’s grown quite a bit. Once things settle down here, I’ll bring them over.” Gu Jiao answered.
“…Alright.” Empress Dowager Zhuang mumbled faintly before finally drifting into a deep sleep.
……
Meanwhile, after losing face outside her palace quarters, Imperial Noble Consort Han returned to her bedchamber and sat in silence for a long time.
It wasn’t until the middle of the night that she finally reconciled with her temper.
Xu Gao let out a long sigh of relief, “Your Highness.”
Imperial Noble Consort Han, her anger dissipated and her expression calm once more, said gently, “I’m fine now. You may withdraw.”
“Does Your Highness require any action on that side?”
The “that side” Xu Gao referred to was, of course, the spy they had planted in the Qilin Hall.
Imperial Noble Consort Han sighed lightly. “No need. It’s just a child. There’s no point in making a fuss. Proceed according to the original plan and refrain from any rash actions.”
Hearing this, Xu Gao finally felt completely at ease, the weight on his chest lifting entirely. “Patience in small matters prevents chaos in larger plans. Your Highness is truly wise.”
This praise of her wisdom was heartfelt.
Imperial Noble Consort Han was someone prone to anger, but her temper flared quickly and subsided just as fast. Once her initial fury passed, she wouldn’t dwell on trivialities.
“How could I allow a mere child to delay important matters?”
Taking out her frustration on the child had been a simple and convenient act, akin to brushing off a bug that had landed on her.
It required no deliberation, no scheming.
The fact that it had failed was entirely unexpected.
But no matter what, she couldn’t allow herself to be consumed by anger over such a minor incident. Her true adversaries were Shangguan Yan, Shangguan Qing, and the new commander, Xiao Liulang, who had taken the Black Wind Cavalry from the Han Family.
“Shangguan Yan and his associates must still be handled with caution.” She said. “Let him gather useful intelligence first. It won’t be too late for me to act afterward.”
……
The next morning, Xiao Heng first took Little Jing Kong to Lingbo Academy for his classes. Afterward, he headed to the inner city of Shengdu to visit the Baoxing District, where he sought out a suitable residence.
Meanwhile, Empress Dowager Zhuang and Old Chief finally realized where they were—Imperial Advisor’s Hall, the most sacred and enigmatic place in the State of Yan.
It was worth noting that over thirty years ago, the State of Yan, like the State of Zhao, had been a lower state. It was through the wisdom of the Six National Books from the Imperial Advisor’s Hall that the State of Yan had risen rapidly, achieving within a few decades the strength to rival the likes of Jin and Liang.
As the Empress Dowager of a nation, Zhuang Jinse had long dreamed of witnessing the Six National Books of the State of Yan firsthand.
As a powerful court official, Old Chief was equally filled with curiosity and longing for this hallowed ground that had birthed such profound wisdom.
After waking up, both of them sat in their respective rooms for a long time, overwhelmed by the realization.
Had they… truly arrived at the Imperial Advisor’s Hall they had dreamed of visiting?
Looking at it this way, the two children did have some remarkable abilities.

Description:
In the suspenseful supernatural novel “Records of Mortals,” Jiang Baiyan, once a solitary and impoverished youth, finds refuge in the Shi family of Chang’an due to his extraordinary bloodline. With his clear and captivating peach blossom eyes, this seemingly innocent young man conceals a fanatical and malevolent lunatic within. Destined to succumb to darkness amidst hardship and degradation, he becomes a harbinger of chaos.
When Shi Dai suddenly transmigrates, she takes on the role of the Shi family’s young lady, the one who subjects him to countless trials, eventually leading to her demise.
The twist? She never got to finish reading the novel.
From what she knew of the plot, Jiang Baiyan was just a silent, timid, and often bullied pitiable character.
***
Jiang Baiyan had never encountered someone like Shi Dai.
After he had slaughtered all the evil creatures in the garden, the blood-stained young man, exuding a murderous aura, approached her step by step, his lips curling into a malicious smile, "Scared?"
Shi Dai responded, “You’re really amazing! I applaud you until I spin like a spiral and fly around the moon three hundred times! And also——you have dimples when you smile!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
After seeing her at a lantern festival with another man, Jiang Baiyan lowered his eyes, his fingers twirling her hair. He said in a mocking and sinister tone, "The mansion in the western suburbs...if I hide you there, no one will find you, right?"
Shi Dai replied, "Does it come with meals and lodging? Can I sleep in everyday? Oh, and your cooking is the best!"
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
—
Jiang Baiyan was supposed to dislike her, even hate her, but as their separation drew near, his eyes turned red and he grabbed her sleeve, pleading, "Don't abandon me, alri—”
Shi Dai responded, "Alright, alright, I’ll only have you. Mwah."
Jiang Baiyan: ...?
He hasn't finished his lines yet though…
