Chapter 21
He’s Pretending To Be Blind Again
Zhao Chuchu was brought to that family’s house.
Both the old and the young people were crying out loud. As they watched, the villagers sighed as they stood around the courtyard.
“Doctor Zhao is here, please make way.”
When the villagers heard that, they made a path for Zhao Chuchu to walk through.
Zhao Chuchu could smell the mixture of alcohol and blood. Zhao Chuchu went over and took a lot of things. Just how much did this guy drink?
“Carry him into the room first.” Zhao Chuchu instructed the villagers.
“Doctor Zhao, please save my son.” The elderly lady tugged on Zhao Chuchu’s sleeve and cried as though the world was ending.
Zhao Chuchu patted her hand and said, “Let me take a look first.”
The man was carried onto the bed. After Zhao Chaochao felt his pulse, she confirmed that he had a gastric ulcer. He started vomiting blood because he drank too much alcohol.
Zhao Chuchu walked out. The man’s mother and wife were both sobbing like the sky was going to fall.
“Is my husband alright?” The man’s wife asked with a quivering voice.
“He’s fine, it’s not a big issue, he’ll be alright after eating some medicine and resting. But take note not to drink in the future, and be careful with his diet,” Zhao Chuchu said, “Don’t worry too much.”
“Really?”
“Yup.”
“Thank you so much! You’re an amazing doctor.”
Zhao Chuchu wrote down the names of the medicines they needed so they could go to the pharmacy and get them. She then told them about the things to take note of for recovery.
Xie Heng stood at the entrance of the courtyard and watched Zhao Chuchu. No one knew what was going through his mind.
Zhao Chuchu turned her head and saw Xie Heng after she had comforted her family and calmed them down.
Their eyes met each other.
Xie Heng’s gaze instantly lost focus.
Zhao Chuchu was at a loss for words.
Can this guy just give him some respect?
He’s pretending to be blind again after seeing her!
“Doctor Zhao, please stay to have dinner with us.” The man’s mother came over to thank her again, “We’re so lucky to have you here, otherwise, we would have no idea what to do.”
“It’s okay, don’t worry about it. We need to return to the town later on, and we might need to go to other areas tomorrow,” Zhao Chuchu politely turned her down.
The pandemic ruined the livelihoods of many people. She wasn’t in need of food, there was no need for her to stay for the meal.
The elderly lady didn’t insist. Instead, she put a piece of loose silver in Zhao Chuchu’s hand and said, “This is the fee for the treatment.”
“No need,” Zhao Chuchu didn’t take it, “Please keep the silver for yourself, and don’t let your son buy alcohol ever again. He’s lucky this time that I’m here, because if this happens again, I’m afraid he won’t survive.”
She was intentionally scaring her.
After all, there were some alcoholics out there that simply cannot control their craving for a drink. They always think that just a few sips will be fine, and more often than not, things don’t end well for them as they lose control.
They will only be cautious when they are afraid.
“Thank you, Doctor Zhao, I will reprimand him sternly and forbid him from drinking.”
“Okay.”
Zhao Chuchu nodded, then pointed at Xie Heng to tell them that she needed to go take care of him now.
As the man’s family kept thanking her, Zhao Chuchu walked up to Xie Heng and asked, “Why did you come here by yourself?”
“I was afraid that something would happen to you,” Xie Heng said softly.
Zhao Chuchu took his arm very naturally and walked toward the outside. “Let’s go, we’ll get something to eat first.”
“Okay.”
“Careful, there’s a rock in front of you.”
“Okay.”
…
“Doctor Zhao treats her husband so well.”
“You guys don’t know? Mr. Xie is the youngest person to become a scholar in the entire Yuan Jiang Country. It’s such a pity that his eyes can’t see.”
“He has Doctor Zhao with him, he’ll definitely be cured someday.”
…
Zhao Chuchu heard the villagers talking about themselves. She felt a little helpless.
Unfortunately, they don’t know about all the things that were happening behind the scenes!
When Jiang Chun sent people to get Zhao Chuchu and Xie Heng in the afternoon, Zhao Chuchu went back to check the man’s pulse. When she saw that the man was awake, she told him again what she had told his mother.
The man nodded profusely and promised to heed her advice.
Only then did Zhao Chuchu leave.
The road leading out of the village was rather bumpy. Zhao Chuchu felt quite sleepy on the carriage.
Suddenly, one of the carriage’s wheels sank into the mud. Zhao Chuchu fell forward and out of her seat, right into Xie Heng’s arms.
