Chapter 399 - Skywing Bloodline
Chapter 399: Skywing Bloodline
Furball had always been seen as a crafty individual by Xia Fei due to his penchant for secretly eating things while Xia Fei was not paying any attention. As long as it was something that contained energy, the mischievous creature would be willing to fit even a piece of metal into its mouth and chew that.
Unfortunately, while this pet of his was a glutton, its skills at hiding the crime was simply not up to par. It would often be caught by Xia Fei red-handed and endure a tongue-lashing after. That was when Furball would demonstrate its ultimate skill of cuteness, licking and rubbing itself against Xia Fei, its two beady eyes turning pitiful, like a child who had done wrong. As such, even the always merciless Xia Fei could not bear to punish it properly.
However, despite the fact that Furball did not change its ways even after being let off, continuing the cycle of causing destruction and ingratiating itself to him later, Xia Fei still ended up being lenient to it time and again.
Life continued in this fashion, and compared to the kind and innocent little robot Pod, Furball was definitely the epitome of cunningness. Today, with Xia Fei being threatened by Yujiang, Furball had finally revealed its ferocious side!
It was as if it had gone mad, its body of snowy-white fur standing upright, looking like a very angry hedgehog!
Its two eyes turned blood red as it shot the two interlopers an angry glare!
There was even a low growl coming from its mouth, similar to a huge metal monstrosity’s roar, shaking the very heart and eardrums of everyone around it! It even seemed like the entire warship was shaking due to Furball’s growl!
It was hard to imagine that the basketball-size Furball could actually let out such a frightening roar!
Yujiang knitted his brows together. Becoming an enemy to a Shatterstar beast was definitely not something he wanted. Even if Furball was still young, Yujiang knew very well that the seemingly lazy holy beast was actually extremely vengeful and bloodthirsty. It would not let up until it killed anyone it deemed as an enemy! As long as Furball was alive, there would come a time when Yujiang might find his neck bitten by this holy beast so that it could get its revenge!
Shatterstar was just such a savage and obstinate beast, and any expert would carefully consider it if it was worth becoming an enemy to one. This was because one side must die the moment battle began, or else there would be no end to the fight!
Xia Fei and Furball already had a contract between them, and their hearts and mind were as one. He commanded Furball to settle down; having an altercation with Yujiang would be foolish no matter how he looked at it, and Xia Fei had no plan to do something like that unless it was a last resort.
In the past, Furball would obey Xia Fei’s orders, but it was different today. Furball strongly opposed Xia Fei’s order, almost to a point where the beast could not be controlled by its owner.
Aside from being shocked by Furball’s violent nature, he was quite touched by it. This was the rumored protection of an exotic beast, where this top-grade exotic beast demonstrated the anger and ferocity it would have when its owner’s life was being threatened!
Thus, it could be seen that Furball was without a doubt his most loyal battle companion!
Turning his head, Xia Fei rested his gaze steadily upon Yujiang, not saying another word.
Yujiang was very powerful, but that did not mean that Xia Fei was afraid of him. This was not because of his blind arrogance but rather the innate resistance he felt under such pressure. The more Yujiang tried to coerce Xia Fei, the greater he defied his wishes. It was completely instinctive on his part.
Yujiang appeared to be very curious. He was very curious how Xia Fei could withstand the pressure he was exerting.
All of a sudden, his turbid pupils flashed a cunning glow, seemingly having figured out something.
Yujiang burst into laughter, and that fathomless black hole disappeared just as quickly as it had appeared following his mood change. Xia Fei was back onboard the Impaler, and his body regained its freedom.
The robot Pod and the exotic beast Furball very quickly threw themselves into Xia Fei’s arms, and that was when Xia Fei noticed that Furball was evidently very angry. He used his two electronic eyes to stare at Yujiang; it was too bad that Pod did not have any combat capabilities to speak of, so all it could do was shield Xia Fei with its body, ready to give its life for the master whenever.
Yuhua finally let out a sigh. He could very clearly see the fury Furball had toward Yujiang earlier, and to any expert out there, making the Shatterstar beast go mad was a very severe threat, and he had broken out in a bout of cold sweat over it.
Yujiang laughter caused the tense atmosphere around them to dissipate, though Xia Fei and Furball were still on high alert.
“Xia Fei, I shall give you three years to settle your business. You’ll follow me to leave the Alliance after, learning the Three Great Laws. Do you accept my offer now?” Yujiang asked with a smile.
Xia Fei was taken aback. He was of course more than happy to learn the Three Great Laws; what Yujiang had demonstrated before had piqued Xia Fei’s interest greatly. A true powerhouse was actually not blindingly fighting and killing; instead, a single wave of hand was enough to cause a battleship to disappear without a trace. Such an impressive show of force, and the methods used, everything had gone well beyond Xia Fei’s knowledge of what martial arts prowess was.
“I was merely testing how you’d react when pressured, and I never would’ve imagined that you could withstand it. Such talents will surely be a waste not to cultivate the Three Great Laws. I, Yujiang, earnestly extend my invitation to you,” Yujiang sincerely stated.
Reject?
Xia Fei very quickly eliminated the thought of rejecting the offer. Only a fool would reject the opportunity to cultivate the Three Great Laws, and who knew if Yujiang would do anything untoward the moment he rejected him outright? Xia Fei simply could not guess what would follow.
Nodding, Xia Fei softly agreed. “Yes, that’s a promise between the elder and myself.”
“Don’t you wish to ask where I’ll be taking you to?”
Xia Fei shook his head. “There’s no need. To me, anywhere which I will have the chance to learn the Three Great Laws is surely somewhere good.”
With a wave of his finger, Yujiang left a transparent ball of light, which was no bigger than a ping-pong ball, where threads of slowly undulating energy could be seen moving within the ball.
“In three years’ time, I will send someone to fetch you. This ball of light has a little gift that I’m leaving you with. You can take a look at it after I leave,” Yujiang said with a genial smile.
……
The large piece of land was still flying across the universe. On that same pier by the little stream.
Yujiang and Yuhua returned to this spot by stepping through their spatial door. Yuhua was somewhat unhappy, for Xa Fei was someone whom he had recommended, yet the young man had very ignorantly not shown the family patriarch face. However, the elder Yujiang did not seem to be in the least bit displeased and was in fact smiling ever so slightly.
“Family patriarch, Yuhua has made a mistake this time; I originally thought that Xia Fei would be a slippery character who oughta know how to be adaptable, but who knew that he would actually be such a stubborn mule?” Yuhua respectfully saluted with a hand cupping a fist.
Unexpectedly, Yujiang gave Yuhua a wave of dismissal, picking up his fish rod and tossing a line into the stream
“You are not to blame. The Skywing bloodline flows through his body, so it’s a very normal reaction for him to have. I did not believe this at first, so I tried using my strength to coerce him, only for him to fight back in kind.”
Yuhua widened his eyes as he exclaimed, “You’re telling me that Xia Fei is a descendent of a Skywing Warrior! How could that be? There’s no reason a Skywing Warrior’s descendant would be found in the tiny Pan-human Alliance… After all, if the Skywing bloodline is found within our circle, that being will be considered a top-tier inheritance!”
Yujiang smiled. “Skywingers, passing down the speed special ability. When cultivated to the very limit, it’ll be akin to growing a pair of wings, able to traverse across the stars, ascend to the eighteen planes of heavens, Nirvana, as well as descend into the beginning of chaos or the twenty-six planes of hell. The Skywing bloodline has also been called, through the ages, as the origin of the speed ability users!”
“Before you mentioned that you had noticed a unique aura around Xia Fei, and that’s precisely the Skywing bloodline flowing through his veins.”
Yuhua was shocked, and he wondered aloud, “The Skywing bloodline is extremely unique, so why did I not sense it?”
Yujiang mysteriously answered, “Xia Fei’s bloodline has already been mutated. When I exerted pressure on him earlier, the young man suddenly demonstrated this intense antagonistic mentality. It was only then that I sensed a bit of the Skywing blood’s shadow. It would’ve been strange if you had been able to sense it, too, given your cultivation.”
Yuhua mused. “The Skywing bloodline is rare and highly sought after, not to mention he has a mutated bloodline. Let me congratulate this elder in advance for taking in a strong disciple, but just how did a Skywing Warrior end up fleeing to the Pan-human Alliance, even leaving behind his descendant there? Would you like me to help investigate this matter for you?”
Yujiang shook his head. “No need. Inheritors of the Skywing bloodline are all lunatics who don’t act according to logic or common sense. They’re capable of doing anything; what if Xia Fei’s existence is those old lunatics’ secret? What would we do then? Best not look into their private matters too casually. This way, our Yu family can stand at the most advantageous position. In our circle, knowing more may not actually be a good thing.”
Yuhua gained an epiphany from the conversation. “Thank you family patriarch for your advice. Yuhua nearly offended someone by doing something impermissible, though I still find it hard to believe. Since Xia Fei actually has the Skywing blood flowing in him, why did the esteemed elder still give him a three-year stipulation to meet? What if those lunatics from the Skywing Clan were to come and claim him? Would it not be good for us? They’re famous for being completely unreasonable, after all, covering up their flaws.”
Yujiang laughed happily. “Oh, Yuhua. Just where has your usual intelligence gone? Not even able to figure out this problem… Not every genetic mutation is a good thing. Because Xia Fei’s mutated, the Skywing bloodline in him is almost lost. As such, unless he explodes in anger, no one will be able to detect his special bloodline. Taking him in is a bit risky, but you saw that Shatterstar beast with him today, too; how did it react?”
Yuhua’s heart still had a lingering fear as he replied, “The desire for slaughter in that fledgling Shatterstar beast makes my heart turn cold. Honestly, I was so scared that my back was drenched in cold sweat. If that holy beast exploded and staked its life on the line, then it would truly be terrible.”
Yujiang’s eyes twinkled brightly as he rejoiced. “That’s right! For a fledgling to already have such an intense fighting spirit, there’s no telling what potential it may behold once it matures! That’s why this little risk we’ve just taken now will be worth it in the future. Besides, it’s not as if we have no idea what bloodline Xia Fei possesses. Even if the Skywing Clan does find out, we’ll at most hand him over. It’ll be an opportunity for us to grant them a favor so effortlessly. Perhaps we can even become friends with such a famed clan.”
“Xia Fei’s seventh brain region has already been severely ruined, and he’s destined to be a cripple for the rest of his life. If he’s able to understand how much effort the family patriarch has done for him, I’m sure he’ll be extremely grateful.” Yuhua flattered his elder.
As they were talking, the fishing line suddenly sank, seemingly having caught a fish in its line. Yujiang quickly lifted the fishing rod in his hand and a fresh and lively golden fish was tossed to the grass beside the stream.
“Haha! Looks like I’m going to have some fresh fish soup tonight. Stay and accompany me.” Seeing how excited Yujiang was, which part of him looked like the longstanding super powerhouse that he was? He looked no different from the average old man at all.
Yuhua nodded. All of a sudden, he recalled that Yujiang had left a ball of energy to Xia Fei, so he opened his mouth to ask, “Family patriarch, what exactly was that thing you gifted Xia Fei before we departed?”
Yujiang flashed a smirk, “What I gave him is something he’s most afraid of.”
