Chapter 176: Of Course We Have to Run if We Can’t Defeat It
“I thought that it was a wild boar!” wailed Xia Zhuyi as he ran in the opposite direction. “Run, quick run! The last time, the wild boar stopped chasing me after I ran into the hot spring area. Oh—I mean, the Slate Beast!”
At the moment, none of them thought too much about why the Slate Beast only gave chase up until the hot springs. What they needed to think about at present was how to run back to the hot springs at the fastest speed.
Fu Chengyu was trailing behind. Seeing all three of his companions running away at high speed, he hesitated momentarily before finally following after them. When they were about to reach the hot springs, Fu Chengyu asked. “Why do we have to run?”
“If we can’t defeat it, then of course we have to run,” said Ling Chuxi as she looked at Fu Chengyu as though he was an idiot.
“But, I should be able to defeat it, so why do I have to run too?” queried Fu Chengyu out loud as his feet paused and an odd expression appeared on his handsome face. ‘That’s right. I can defeat it. Why is there a need to run?’
“Huh? You can defeat it?! Then go and beat it up,” said Ling Chuxi in surprise as she and the rest also stopped running. Ling Chuxi turned back to look at the Slate Beast which was still rushing towards them aggressively. ‘Why she never! Why didn’t he just say earlier on that he could defeat it?!’
Fu Chengyu drew his sword and flew forward to meet the Slate Beast. From the moment his sword left its scabbard, a silvery light flooded the surrounding area and the figure of a swordsman wielding a sword rushed forward so fast it seemed like he was an illusion.
With one move, just a simple move, Fu Chengyu caused the Slate Beast’s momentum to stop. Without even making a sound, it crashed to the ground with a boom. The whole ground seemed to shudder in the aftermath.
Ling Chuxi stared at this scene with her eyes popped out and her mouth agape. ‘So, this weak looking rascal, Fu Chengyu, is actually so strong?!’
Just as she thought this, she saw Fu Chengyu sheath his sword with a pale face. It was almost as if he could not stand upright.
“Senior brother! Are you all right?” exclaimed Ling Yichen as he went to support Fu Chengyu in worry.
“I’m fine,” said Fu Chengyu with a gentle shake of his head as a faint smile appeared on his handsome face.
“He’s barely surviving,” assessed Ling Chuxi once she went forward and took Fu Chengyu’s pulse. She glared at him, “When you released your Battle Qi just now, you caused your blood to churn. Your frost poison is actually very problematic. It has already invaded your bloodstream.”
“Then, how is my senior brother’s condition now, Chuxi?” asked Ling Yichen with a frown when he heard Ling Chuxi’s words.
“He just needs to rest for a bit. It is not a big problem. When we return, I will go and look for some herbs to refine a medicinal pill,” said Ling Chuxi as she retracted her hand. Fu Chengyu’s hand was cold. It was caused by the effects of the frost poison.
“However, I must say, Yichen’s senior brother is really strong. He managed to instant-kill a Slate Beast with a single move,” sighed Xia Zhuoyi as he looked over at the huge carcass of the Slate Beast.
“Hey, all of that is good stuff. Zhuoyi, go and skin it,” instructed Ling Chuxi with a smile as her gaze landed on the Slate Beasts’ carcass. She also marvelled at Fu Chengyu’s cultivation in her heart. She really never thought that Fu Chengyu was so strong. Back then, a Level 5 Wind Owl Beast had left the fifth princess’ two secret guards half dead and she herself had also found it very tricky to defeat it. Now, they faced a Level 6 monster beast but it was instant-killed by a single move from Fu Chengyu.
…
After taking everything usable from the Slate Beast, everyone was about to depart, but Ling Chuxi suddenly stopped.
“Guys, why was it that the Slate Beast would only have chased us until the hot springs and stopped there?” pondered Ling Chuxi aloud as she touched her chin.
“Indeed… Why?” said Xia Zhuoyi, giving serious thought to the question as he touched the monster beast egg under his armpit. “Could it be that there is something here that the Slate Beast fears?”
Something that could make even a Level 6 monster beast afraid. What could it be?
When all of them thought about this, all their expressions changed subtly.
“An even stronger monster beast? Or perhaps, there is a rare treasure of some kind here?” guessed Ling Chuxi with a frown.
