Chapter 23: Professional Outdoor Expedition Gear!

At dawn, before Ning Fei started his webcast, he received another call from Battling Birds Webcast Platform. It was Xu Sheng.
Ning Fei’s viewership data yesterday had shocked the company’s management. He had broken several records.
For example, he was the fastest to hit 500,000 viewers. He also retained the greatest percentage of his viewers and was the webcaster with the highest number of subscribers.
The management of Battling Birds Webcast Platform had immediately decided that they would agree to any condition set by the webcaster. They had to sign a contract with him!
“My annual salary will be 1,000,000 yuan, and I want 70% of the earnings. This contract will be valid for one year.” Ning Fei set out his terms.
He felt that he wasn’t being unreasonable. He only wanted to commit to one year.
Xu Sheng contemplated for a while before he finally agreed.
Ning Fei’s results had been too astounding, and if they didn’t sign him on now, he would be poached by their competitors.
Xu Sheng had gotten news that at least twenty other webcast companies had offered Ning Fei a contract.
“Ning Fei, you’re really confident,” Xu Sheng concluded.
Xu Sheng understood that Ning Fei was a smart man. If he could really become a Grade S webcaster within a year, then this contract would undoubtedly be advantageous to him.
But if he couldn’t achieve that, then the platform might not even renew his contract for the second year.
“I don’t like to be bound for so long,” answered Ning Fei calmly.
That was what he had thought.
Five years were indeed too long.
To be frank, one year was too long too.
But he had no choice. He hadn’t heard of any contract that only stipulated half a year. That was quite ridiculous. Who knew what would happen in one year? Perhaps he could become a Grade S webcaster, who could then demand better treatment. Or perhaps he could reach Grade SS and become the top webcaster who everyone revered and was in awe of. Or perhaps he could even become the first Grade SSS webcaster in history. Then, all the webcast platforms might even broadcast his livestream at the same time to the whole world.
Of course, it was still too early for predictions. No other webcaster had been given Grade SSS before. A famous webcaster named “Faker” had managed to get a webcast platform in both China and another country to broadcast his livestream at the same time.
And so, the terms of the contract were confirmed. An attorney would be meeting Ning Fei regarding the contract.
It was currently 9:00 a.m. in the morning.
Ning Fei started his webcast.
‘Good morning, hubby!’
‘Good morning, Host!’
‘Good morning!’
Ning Fei received many warm welcome greetings the moment he began.
They were all from his fans, which he had accumulated over the span of two days.
The more knowledgeable a webcaster was, the more viewers would return.
“Good morning, everyone.” Ning Fei waved at the screen.
‘Host, what is the content today?’
‘Are you going to look for lingzhi again?’
‘How much did you earn yesterday?’
‘I want to meet those ducks!’
‘Host, let’s go fishing again!’
Many people began to ask about the webcast’s content.
“Haha! Everyone, please be patient. We won’t be going to the mountain today. Instead, I’m going to buy some equipment for the expedition in a few days’ time.” Ning Fei grinned at the screen.
‘A mountain expedition?’
‘Are you going to test your survival skills in the wild?’
‘Gosh, Host. Are you going to the mountain again?’
The viewers replied frantically.
“Indeed. Before I go to the mountains, I need to do some preparations. If not, I am likely to die.”
Ning Fei then walked out of the temple.
Before he left, he fed Little Falcon with some food, including the bird feed he had won yesterday. Ning Fei was hoping that Little Falcon would grow up quickly.
Every time Ning Fei was about to leave, he would lock the birdcage securely. He was worried that Little Falcon might escape. Rather, he was afraid that a weasel might take it away.
Weasels were infamous for eating rats and chicks. They also liked to bite little chicks to death.
There was once when a weasel had sneaked into a house. It caught a chick and bit the rest to death.
Ning Fei was worried that a weasel might enter the temple to take Little Falcon away. And so, he locked the cage.
“I will see everyone in the afternoon then!” Ning Fei informed his viewers before he switched off the livestream.
He typed a message in the webcast room before he left, ‘Host is leaving to get some equipment. The webcast will start at 3:00 p.m sharp.’
In that way, the viewers would know where he went.
Ning Fei hailed a taxi and left the mountain.
He was thinking of buying a car. He had 400,000 yuan now, and this was a huge sum of money.
“If the temple were to undergo renovation, this sum wouldn’t be enough,” Ning Fei muttered to himself. “I also have to buy equipment. In that case, I need to shelve my plan of buying a car.”
Ning Fei traveled to an outdoor adventure club.
Ning Fei was acquainted with the club manager. He had been classmates with his son, Wang Xiaotian, at high school, and they had been rather close. He would also go to his house to play.
But after they went to different universities, both of them didn’t keep in contact.
Ning Fei’s results were good, so he got into an educational institution in the capital city. Wang Xiaotian didn’t do well and had to go to a small school in town.
Nonetheless, Ning Fei would always come back to visit him.
“Feifei! It’s been so long! Why are you here today?” Wang Hong, his friend’s father, saw Ning Fei and smiled at him.
“Uncle Wang, I need a set of equipment for an outdoor expedition. The really professional kind.” Ning Fei cut to the chase.
“Professional equipment?” Wang Hong was taken aback momentarily. “Are you really going on an expedition with the equipment? Besides, professional equipment is expensive. Where did you get the money?”
Professional equipment consisted of more items. There were special tents for camping in the mountain, backpacks, groundsheets, sleeping bags, climbing ropes, mountain lights, safety harnesses, and more.
Other than these, one would also need special spectacles for viewing on mountains, binoculars, windbreaker outfits, cooking utensils, a compass, a multi-functional kettle, and more. Not to mention a water purifier among others.
A set of equipment would cost about 58,000 yuan1.
Ning Fei replied casually, “Uncle Wang, are you afraid that I won’t pay up?”
To his question, Wang Hong didn’t reply. He simply went to his storeroom and dragged two huge suitcases out.
And the following scene looked like it was from a spy movie.
There were layers of black sponge inside the suitcases. On the sponge were neatly lined equipment and tools.
Everything was for an outdoor expedition. Everything was black and reflected a faint glow as though it was all made of metal.
It was so cool!
Ning Fei’s eyes lit up, and without hesitation, he whipped out his phone and paid by having his QR code scanned.
Wang Hong saw how quickly he had paid and asked out of curiosity, “What outdoor expedition team did you join? Care to tell me? I might know.”
He was running an outdoor expedition club, so he knew many teams.
Ning Fei waved his hands and shrugged. “I’m just exploring on my own.”
Wang Hong added with concern, “Ning Fei, outdoor expeditions are very dangerous. You should get a companion to go with you. Don’t go alone!”
Ning Fei reassured him before he turned to leave.
