Chapter 1282 - Resorting To Close Combat
Chapter 1282: Resorting To Close Combat
“Contract!”
The moment Spring Halo’s staff landed, the encirclement of the nine demons contracted, trapping Boundless Ocean within it, before unleashing their attacks at the same time.
The damage done by the demons were not considered high. Given Boundless Ocean’s full HP status, he easily had 70 to 80 thousand HP remaining. Additionally, given the magic resistance from his cloth armour, it wasn’t dangerous for him to receive the attacks from the demons. However, what was frightening was that these demons had thick skins and big builds. After getting trapped within their encirclement, Boundless Ocean’s movements were severely restrained.
Keeping this in mind, Spring Halo pointed his staff towards the ground and cast an ability. Shortly after, a pool of red-coloured poisonous liquid appeared on the ground underneath Boundless Ocean’s feet.
[Plague Pool]!
This ability was similar to the other abilities that a Shaman possessed. Even though it had a low damage output, it was extremely disgusting and could greatly weaken the target’s defences in a short period of time.
The reason why Boundless Ocean was able to resist the demons was because he had sufficient magic resistance. If he were to be hit by this ability, he might not be able to last a few exchanges with the demons.
Perfect timing!
Without waiting for the effect of the [Plague Pool] to be stacked upon himself, Boundless Ocean tapped his staff lightly on the ground and cast [Ice Mirror].
The judgement of a spellcaster’s ability depended on the damage output of the ability. As a Magician, Boundless Ocean’s damage output naturally did not lose to Spring Halo.
With a flash of blue light on Boundless Ocean’s staff, a layer of frost emanated from Boundless Ocean, freezing up the [Plague Pool] underneath his feet.
Following which, Boundless Ocean’s left hand was flung forward as an [Icy Spear] left his staff and pierce through the head of one of the demons.
[Icy Spear] was one of the strongest single-target damage abilities within an Ice Mage’s arsenal, and had a frighteningly high damage output. When cast by an expert player like Boundless Ocean, the might of this ability was nothing to scoff at.
“Pfft!”
The ice spear immediately pierced through the thick skull of the demon, causing the demon to explode into a cloud of green mist. At the same time, Boundless Ocean leapt out of the encirclement and raised his staff, crying, “Ice Cage!”
“Tu tu tu!”
Countless of ice pillars shot out from the ground and trapped the demons within it.
Upon seeing this, Spring Halo hurriedly commanded the demons the run out of the encirclement of the ice pillars.
In this kind of top-tier level battle, the outcome of the exchange depended on who took the initiative first. A Magician’s casting duration was much faster than a Shaman, and given that Boundless Ocean was the one to act first, Spring Halo was naturally left at a disadvantage.
Before the demons could scatter, the ice pillars had already risen from the ground. One of the faster demons was even directly pierced through by one of the rising ice pillars and hung on the top of it.
The damage done by the ice pillars wasn’t high, thus the demon was not eliminated instantly. However, seeing the demon struggling helplessly after getting pierced through by the ice pillar, cold sweat formed on the shocked faces of the audience. F*ck, it might as well been killed immediately on the spot.
The damage output of a Shaman was miserably low, and Spring Halo’s main role was that of a controller, thus his main damage output relied on his demons.
After having all of his demons getting caught up in Boundless Ocean’s trap, Spring Halo no longer had any method of dishing out any real damage. In a face to face battle where both parties hurled abilities at each other, as a Magician, Boundless Ocean naturally had the upper hand.
The Boundless Ocean that had successfully managed to escape the previous encirclement did not directly attack Spring Halo. Instead, he cheekily smiled and retreated two steps backwards.
“Hooha!”
At this moment, a bush of thorny undergrowth appeared from the ground which Boundless Ocean was previously stepping on.
“Eh? How could he?”
Upon seeing this, a shocked expression surfaced on Spring Halo’s face. He was seemingly stunned by Boundless Ocean’s ability to dodge his abilities.
Boundless Ocean smiled and said. “Keke, Brother Spring’s calculations are really precise!”
“F*ck…”
Upon hearing this, Spring Halo revealed an embarrassed expression on his face.
The audience was left in a daze.
What did he mean by that? If it was truly precise, why was Boundless Ocean able to dodge his abilities? Unless Boundless Ocean was trying to provoke Spring Halo? It couldn’t be either… Boundless Ocean was not a person of such a character.
An outsider naturally did not know what had occurred during the battle. Only experts of the same trade were able to understand the meaning behind Boundless Ocean’s words.
What Boundless Ocean said was true, Spring Halo’s ability to calculate and predict his opponent’s movements were almost as precise as that of a computer. However, these calculations had greatly restrained Spring Halo’s fighting style and made it rigid. When faced against an expert like Boundless Ocean, it wasn’t difficult to deal with a rigid fighting style. What was hard was dealing with an ever-changing one!
If Spring Halo were like the rest of Quan Zhen Sect and cast abilities based on their instincts, Boundless Ocean would be rather fearful of him. However, after witnessing the manner in which Spring Halo cast his abilities, the moment he was able to see through Spring Halo’s calculations, it was extremely easy for him to deal with it.
For example, if Boundless Ocean had proceeded as with what he would normally have done and directly cast an ability to attack Spring Halo, Spring Halo’s [Thorny Undergrowth] would have successfully trapped him in. However, Boundless Ocean had long realised this point. Thus, he only needed to casually take a step back to easily break Spring Halo’s tactics.
Of course, this wasn’t to say that Spring Halo’s precision in his ability casting was weak, but rather it was that his opponent was too strong.
Being able to see through the opponent’s strategy at every single turn, in the realm of martial arts, was known as possessing a complete understanding of the enemy and countering him. One must possess an exceptional understanding of the opponent’s job class and abilities in order to reach this level in the game. In the whole of <<REBIRTH>>, there were only a few players that could do this, and unluckily for Spring Halo, Boundless Ocean was one of them.
“[Ice Dragon Tornado], rise!”
Following Boundless Ocean’s incantations, a cloud of icy air rose from beneath Spring Halo’s feet, before twirling and rising with Spring Halo trapped within it.
[Ice Dragon Tornado] was an AOE ability that possesses an extremely high damage output and could reduce the movement speed of all targets within a 300 radius. The casting speed of the ability was high as well.
Seems like even though Boundless Ocean had seen through Spring Halo’s calculations, he was still relatively fearful of Spring Halo’s ability. Thus, he had immediately cast an AOE ability off the bat without leaving any room for Spring Halo to retaliate.
Ice magic wasn’t as direct as lightning magic and its projectile speed was slower. Thus, the main fighting style of ice magic users was to trap the enemy in ice before casting any damaging abilities at the opponent. The moment Spring Halo’s movement speed was reduced, the initiative would have completely landed in the hands of Boundless Ocean. The Spring Halo at this moment would naturally not sit idly by and let this happen.
Just when the [Ice Dragon Tornado] was about to reach Spring Halo, Spring Halo suddenly dissolved into a pool of blood and slid over to Boundless Ocean, sticking close to the ground.
[Shadow Blood Pool], consumes one’s life force to turn into a pool of blood, immune to any damage while in this state.
“???”
Seemingly as if this was the first time Boundless Ocean saw such an underhanded ability, he hurriedly cast [Ice Mirror] on the ground, attempting to freeze the pool of blood that Spring Halo was in.
Who would have thought that this ability would enable the user to be invulnerable? Even if Boundless Ocean cast an Awakened ability, he still wouldn’t have been able to harm Spring Halo.
Under the gaze of everyone, Spring Halo slowly slid underneath Boundless Ocean’s feet and suddenly transformed back into his human form, as he rose from the ground and thrust his staff towards Boundless Ocean’s groin.
“F*ck!”
Upon seeing this, an image of the pitiful demon that was pierced through by the ice pillar flashed through Boundless Ocean’s mind. Even if Spring Halo’s physical damage wasn’t high, if Boundless Ocean was to suffer that hit in that area, the feeling wouldn’t be pleasant.
Thus, Boundless Ocean frantically took a step back, narrowly dodging Spring Halo’s despicable attack. At this moment, Spring Halo stood up and raised his staff into the air, before pounding it down towards Boundless Ocean.
“F*ck! Close combat Shaman?”
The moment the audience saw this scene, they were shocked into a daze. Everyone suddenly realised that their understanding of the players from Quan Zhen Sect was wrong. Could this group of lunatics actually be the type of players that would resort to close combat if all else fails?
