Chapter 1896: Extra Story: A Brand New Life 11 (Jiang Yue and Xue Yan)
“You know each other, right?” Chen Sheng said with a smile. “I was just telling Yao Xi how Xu Yi said that you knew Xue Yan.”
“Yeah, I know her.” Jiang Yue held a plastic bag in her hand, filled with several bottles of drinks, and handed one to each of them.
“This is too polite of you.” Chen Sheng and Yao Xi both felt a bit embarrassed.
Xue Yan laughed, “It’s fine, just bought it on the way. It’s still a bit far from the dormitory building, and I’m not sure if you guys can carry all this.”
Chen Sheng and Yao Xi put the drinks in their pockets and tested the boxes on the ground: “They are quite heavy, but the three of us big guys can manage one each, let’s go.” And with that, each of them picked up a box.
Xue Yan also picked up a box, with a backpack still hanging over her shoulders.
Jiang Yue tried to take the backpack off her, but Xue Yan wouldn’t allow it, and there was nothing she could do about it, so she let Xue Yan be. She just carried two plastic bags, one with drinks and the other with fruit, both purchased at the school gates while waiting for Chen Sheng and Yao Xi to arrive.
When they arrived at the entrance of the boys’ dormitory, Chen Sheng and Yao Xi went in first. Xue Yan put down the cardboard box at her feet, then took out a laptop bag from her backpack and handed it to Jiang Yue: “Take all the fruit, I don’t eat it. You can buy drinks in the cafeteria, take them. It’s past lunchtime, and I think the second floor of the cafeteria does stir-fry. Let’s go have lunch later.”
Because they had milk tea and mousse cake at the tea shop, they weren’t very hungry just now, so they didn’t eat out, but lunch was still necessary.
“Okay.” Jiang Yue took the laptop bag.
“Don’t use your meal card yet, use mine first.”
“Okay.”
He opened the cardboard box at his feet, “You take some paper and pens first, I’ll bring the rest to class for you later, to save you the trouble. Didn’t you tell your roommate you’re out to buy pens?”
“Okay.” Jiang Yue took a few pens and two small notebooks of draft paper that he had taken out of the cardboard box.
“Do you want me to walk you to the entrance of your dormitory?”
Finally, Jiang Yue smiled, “Didn’t you say there’s no need? It’s fine, go on in, I need to head back too. I’ll send you a message after I put away my things, and we can go to the cafeteria for lunch.”
“Okay.”
When Xue Yan returned to dorm room 310, it was still just him, Chen Sheng, and Yao Xi inside, with the cardboard boxes placed beside the bed.
Seeing him return, Chen Sheng, who was just opening a drink, immediately laughed, “What’s with all these boxes? They’re pretty heavy.”
“Textbooks and materials. Along with some paper, pens, and other things.”
“That many?” Both Chen Sheng and Yao Xi were surprised. These were three big boxes after all. Although there were many books in the third year of high school, when put together, they still wouldn’t fill a single big box.
Xue Yan: “Textbooks from elementary school to high school.”
“No wonder,” Chen Sheng nodded, “but why do you need elementary school textbooks?”
Xue Yan told the plain truth: “My basics are poor, so it’s best to start from the beginning.”
Chen Sheng and Yao Xi also had poor foundations, but they had never thought to relearn everything starting from the first grade. Their mouths hung open, and after a long moment, they just raised their thumbs and said, “Respect.”
Wary of wounding Xue Yan’s pride and dampening her enthusiasm, Chen Sheng and Yao Xi didn’t mention how the third year of high school was only one year and whether she had enough time.
Still, Chen Sheng couldn’t resist gossiping, “I really hadn’t expected that you knew Jiang Yue. This morning, Jiang Yue had Xu Yi ask me to ask you to come out of the dormitory. But you were not in the room at the time, so I said I’d wait until you got back before telling you. I didn’t expect you would run into each other outside. I never thought this before but today I found Jiang Yue to be exceptionally pretty, even prettier than Li Ting.”
