Chapter 283: Spirit Alchemy (Part 2)

“It’s not enough to just have one of these magic arrays.” While speaking of alchemy, Judikaka had forgotten that he was working for Saleen. He was obviously really interested in alchemy. For a spirit, Judikaka was already too similar to a human.
“I have never been to the death dimension, but I heard that there are oceans in there too. And in these oceans, there are some strange creatures. It would be great if bone spirits can be made.”
“How do you know about bone spirits?” Judikaka was even more intrigued now. Even death mages were not familiar with bone spirits. What was more, Saleen was still an elemental mage.
Of course, Saleen had learned about them by accident. Saleen spent a huge amount of effort conceptualizing the idea of the boat. He needed to have a powerful warship since he had chosen such a location to build a city. The problem was, Saleen did not have that kind of money to build many warships, so he could only use another method, which was to build a boat which could do battle underwater.
Before other people did their research on the pan’s turtle alchemical boat, there would be a protracted period of time where the ship could not be sunk. This was because most people would not try to attack an underwater target. For a long time, Alchemy City had already possessed ships which could travel underwater, but the toughness of those ships were related to their costs of production. Hence, even Alchemy City did not have a solution to this problem.
There was the warship at Devil’s Horn which had been produced from the bones of magic sea beasts. However, this ship could not travel underwater, and instead seemed like it could fly in the air. Saleen was envious of that ship. Unfortunately, he was not so lucky as to be able to capture such a creature to produce a large warship.
With this alchemical boat, Saleen felt that he was very safe. As long as the magic array was shut down, the ship would be underwater, and beside the gods, no one else would be able to locate him.
“I also know that bloodstones aren’t valuable in the death dimension,” Saleen replied with a smile.
“That’s true, but what about it?”
“If the size of a bloodstone is big enough, then it can store a large amount of magic power, and that will be more useful than scrolls. A usual bloodstone is about the size of a pearl, but there are also ones which are bigger than a thumb. There are even some, which are produced by certain creatures, which are bigger than fists. Am I right?”
Judikaka nodded. In the death dimension, bloodstones were ubiquitous. Some of these red rocks were even larger than houses. But many were simply the size of rice grains, and because they were easily available, they were not valuable. But what did that have to do with bone spirits?
“I need two spirit pools which can be used to produce bone spirits. One of them will be used to produce bone spirits from the oceans in the death dimension. They have to be swift and be able to bring along bloodstones to release magic. The other spirit pool will be used to produce bone spirits which will move the boat underwater.”
Judikaka was slightly disappointed, and said, “This idea is brilliant, but it won’t be effective against real experts!”
“I have never thought of going against experts. I just need to be able to deal with people who are slightly stronger than myself.” Saleen thought to himself, In the ocean, unless a grand sorcerer is present, everyone will be doomed once the warship is sunk. I am going to deal with warships, not humans, so such an attack plan is already inadequate.
Those bone spirits who brought the bloodstones and swam at high speeds to attack the warships would achieve a better result than simply casting spells. Bone spirits had basic judgmental abilities, and they were able to execute their master’s commands. The experts in the death dimension who created bone spirits were identical to the humans who created puppets. These things acted as laborers or cannon fodder.
If Saleen wanted to increase the offensive ability of the alchemical boat, he would have to be a sorcerer so as to advance the Ice Bomb spell to a high level. That way, he would already be able to alter the magic array on the alchemical boat.
“This boat is too small, and you are demanding two spirit pools. At best, a little over twenty bone spirits will be produced for you.” Judikaka was unsatisfied. Originally, Saleen had requested his help. But now, it seemed like he was working for Saleen, and he was being very meticulous about Saleen’s design.
“I have some shards from the green spirit. They are able to seal the bone spirits so they can be stored.”
“Using green spirits to store bone spirits?” Judikaka felt that Saleen was too prodigal. Bone spirits were the lowest grade of creatures, and they were not even considered to be proper spirits. Furthermore, the green spirit was extremely rare in the death dimension.
In total, Saleen had two green spirit cores. One of them had gone to Sika while the other had been used to seal the winged skeleton. There were many shards from the green spirit, so Saleen planned to fuse half of them into the alchemical boat. By doing so, at least one hundred bone spirits could be sealed.
It was precisely because of the low-grade of the bone spirits that Saleen wanted them. High-grade death creatures needed to be controlled by death mages. Furthermore, Saleen’s green spirit shards would not be able to seal so many high-grade spirits.
Over one hundred odd bone spirits carrying the bloodstones to conduct a kamikaze attack would likely be adequate for one battle. A normal warship would not even be able to carry one hundred magic stone artillery bombs.
Judikaka was speechless. Even though Saleen’s plan was flawed, it was compensated by materials. However, if Judikaka had designed the plan, the green spirit would definitely have been put to better use. A sly glow flashed from the soul flames in Judikaka’s orbitals. Judikaka decided that he was going to do something behind Saleen’s back which would definitely surprise Saleen.
Saleen had unconsciously made his matter into Judikaka’s matter, and he had not even requested it. At this moment, Judikaka had not sensed it yet either.
“Do you have any other requests?”
“Yes. Right now, this boat is completely sealed. In order to view the surroundings, magic images will have to be activated, and similar to the magic array, it is easily discovered.”
“That will be easy to settle.” Judikaka interrupted Saleen’s sentence. The concealing ability of a spirit was very strong, and a simple magic array which contained the Eye of the Dead spell would be enough to solve the problem. Furthermore, the eye of the dead could differentiate between the living and the dead. Under a scan by the eye of the dead, a person would be able to tell whether a certain creature was still alive or not.
“This boat is also too slow…”
Saleen had finally thought about the issue of saving his money. The pan’s turtle alchemical boat was not slow at all, or else it would not have been able to keep up with the three warships from Sregl Island for thousands of miles. It was just that the price to steer this boat at a high speed was too great. The sheer amount of depleted magic nuclei was too much to bear even for Lex.
It would be very conservative to use the bone spirits to move the boat, but the speed could potentially be compromised. The advantage of bone spirits was that they were hardly detectable by mages.
Judikaka did not say anything. A green light shot out from the orbital on his head, enveloping the alchemical boat. With a simple scan, Judikaka said, “There are some things added on the exterior of the boat which are affecting the speed of the boat. If you remove them, the boat’s speed will increase.”
Saleen nodded in response. With the eye of the dead, the crystals which were mosaicked onto the turtle shell could already be removed. Those crystals were used to transmit magic images.
“The materials in the alchemical machines are very good, but you wasted all of them. If the entire refinement process was started from the beginning again, some space could be saved and the speed could be increased a little as well.” Judikaka could see right through the internal structure of the alchemical boat, and he began believing Saleen’s words already.
Saleen was wealthy. If he had not hailed from a prominent background, there was no way he could have gotten such a boat.
This ship was very crude, but its materials were of high grade, and many of these materials could not be purchased using money. As Judikaka thought of this point, he became enthusiastic. If that was the case, then perhaps Saleen could really help him find information regarding Shanglan.
“Take out whatever materials you have. I will help you redesign it.” Judikaka retracted from his soul peeping, feeling very good.
Saleen knew that such things could not be forced. Even though Judikaka’s offensive ability was impacted in this plane, his alchemy was still at its original level. Saleen was just reeling in regret that he had not been able to obtain more materials after finding such a powerful person to help refine the warship.
Saleen decisively took out all his materials and laid them on the ground, creating a trail which extended for over one hundred meters.
As Judikaka watched Saleen take out pieces of high grade materials, he had the urge to simply grab them. However, he held back his emotions in time. To the three kings, these things were only precious in their memories, but the largest problem was that they could no longer advance.
The most important reason for coming to this plane was to avoid detection by the gods and to look for a solution to be separated from the scepter. Without the scepter, their powers would be reduced temporarily, but their advancement would no longer be limited.
“Leave it to me.” All of a sudden, Judikaka laid on the floor and his body began expanding. At first, he had been about eight meters long, but now, he had become as big as a hill, and then he swallowed the alchemical boat in a single gulp.
As Saleen stared at Judikaka’s original form, he finally understood why Judikaka possessed immense strength.
This was spirit alchemy? Saleen could not see what was going on inside Judikaka’s stomach, but Judikaka was swallowing the materials which were laid on the ground. Sometimes, he would spit certain materials out, and this was a clear signal that they were not suitable. However, at other times, Judikaka would spit out a bunch of dregs.
The shards from the green spirit were not completely used up. It was obvious that Judikaka was mindful of this material. However, there was no rhenium gold left, among other materials such as ink silver, mithril, fine gold, graham steel, fine copper… At least one third of those items which Saleen had obtained from the Myers Goddess’ temple were consumed.
After about five hours, Judikaka spit out the alchemical boat from his mouth, and resumed his human form. Saleen tried his very best to not recall Judikaka’s original form, because it was an extremely terrifying legendary spirit. All the tales about this spirit were related to brutality and killing. Throughout the history of the Myers Mainland, thousands of people would die whenever a death mage summoned such a spirit.
“You can recognize my race?” The fear in the depths of Saleen’s soul could not be concealed from Judikaka, so Saleen could only nod his head.
“Looks like my reputation in this plane isn’t too pleasant,” Judikaka mocked himself. Then he continued, “Go and take a look, and you can put away your items. If Diyabannersa sees so many treasures laying around, he might just snatch them away.”
Saleen quickly put away the materials. Judikaka was not joking. Since Judikaka was already such a horrifying fellow, then Diyabannersa would not be a peaceful and gentle creature either.
“Actually, the myths aren’t true. If I told you that my race is actually very common and weak in the death dimension, would you believe me?”
Saleen shook his head. Quit joking. How could Judikaka’s race be weak?
